Blender is a software suite for 3D creation. It's the sort of tool you would use to create computer-generated movies, visual effects, assets for 3D games, architectural visualizations, and a whole lot more. It's been on my radar for a long time. It started as a simple, but pretty capable piece of software. It has now matured to the point where it rivals the top commercial tools used by companies like Pixar and Dreamworks.
My interest in Blender is primarily for experimenting with various designs. It's more of an artist's tool than the sort of 3D modeling tools you would use to create finished geometries of manufacturable parts and assemblies. Software like Fusion360, Onshape, and Solidworks fills that niche. Blender is a much better tool for playing around with the design of a car body or a visualization of an architectural project.
I've dipped my toes into 3D modeling a few times. I'm pretty proficient with Fusion360 and can create simple parts, so I hope that experience helps me out here.
I originally planned to study this topic for a while, but I'm finding that visualizing my home renovation projects would be helpful. So, let's get cracking.
